The human being. The summit of creation.
War – Armament – Environmental pollution – Rainforest deforestation – Rising crime rates – Bullying – Abuse – Human trafficking – Exploitation of resources and people – Animal cruelty – Factory farming – Overconsumption – Fast fashion – Murder – Drug crime – Waste of water and food – Hunger – Pandemic – Dictatorship – Media control – End of biodiversity – Extinction of entire species – Man-made climate change – Fraud – Tax evasion – Power struggles – Oppression – racism – discrimination – mountains of garbage – microplastics – and again and again violence in all conceivable forms…
This list could go on for a long time. The list of things that we humans – the "summit of creation" – cause. We consider ourselves as unassailable as if we could allow ourselves anything.
We all bear responsibility for what happens in the world. Sure, we're not all murderers and many of us care about those around us or the environment. But nevertheless, we are jointly responsible for the state of our earth and our society through what we do not do, the things we allow or tacitly accept in order not to have to give up our own comfort. We all enjoy the large, constantly available range of goods, our luxurious apartments and cars, the possibilities that the Internet offers us. And even if we do without and live minimalistically, we are still part of the system, because in this world a completely self-sufficient life is simply no longer possible. Just think of nationalities, compulsory registration, national borders, water supply and sanitation, health services, education, political participation, etc.
We humans must finally become aware of our responsibility. No one is saying that we have to go back to the Stone Age, but we have to adapt our thinking and our decisions. If everyone starts with themselves, we can achieve so much.
We could walk more, build more energy-efficient houses, put money into education instead of rearmament. We could buy clothes that last longer and don't pollute the environment and offer food in eco-friendly packaging. We could put environmental and nature care on the timetable and make a social service for young people mandatory. We could be offline more often and talk to each other on the bus instead of staring into our phones, we could form small communities again to help each other out.
In short, we could start to behave like a part of creation again, instead of like the biggest bully in the schoolyard.
Because if we don't manage to rethink, nature will one day decide to give back to humans everything she had to suffer because of them.
And the "summit of creation" will have no choice but to humbly accept its fate.
