Not long ago, someone on Naver Knowledge asked the following question, saying they were afraid of death, and I’d like to share my thoughts on this topic with you.
I’m afraid of death.
I don’t usually think about it much, but when I suddenly start thinking about death, I get so scared. I’m terrified of falling into endless darkness, and I start to wonder if life even has any meaning. Of course, it hasn’t happened yet, but I’m just so scared... It’s going to happen someday, right? Even the thought of just falling into a deep sleep scares me, and the idea that I’ll simply vanish from this world feels so absurd that I start trembling. Seriously, what should I do... I’m so terrified that endless darkness will come someday. Of course, where there’s life, there’s death, but I’m so afraid of what comes after death, and I don’t really believe in an afterlife or anything like that. Seriously, what should I do?
Aristotle said the Earth was round, but no one believed it at the time. We know that the Earth being round isn’t simply a matter of belief. That’s because it has been scientifically proven. However, science has not yet uncovered everything about human beings.
If you watch the Netflix documentary *Surviving Death*, the first episode features stories of people who experienced the afterlife through near-death experiences. What they all have in common is that, upon death, they did not face endless darkness; instead, their souls left their bodies and entered a new spiritual world. It is said that there are millions of pieces of evidence supporting this.
Additionally, Episode 6 explores the topic of reincarnation. It features scholars attempting to prove that a person’s soul can be reborn in a new physical body. They possess a vast amount of data. They sought out children who remembered their past lives, recorded numerous details—such as names, homes, and occupations from previous lives—and then visited the actual places where those people had lived to verify, one by one, whether the records matched. Why, then, is this not scientifically recognized despite such an abundance of evidence?
It is because it is invisible. Since it can not be seen, it is hard to believe. It is truly ironic. It is similar to how, even though Aristotle claimed the Earth was round, people at the time could not verify it with their own eyes and therefore did not believe him.
The soul also possesses a vital energy. Once we develop the ability to perceive that energy, only then will humans come to believe in the existence of the soul. The reason death is frightening is, in fact, because of our ignorance about it. It is much like how people in ancient times, believing the Earth to be flat, feared sailing into the depths of the ocean. We fear what we do not know; once we realize that death is not the end, there is no need to fear it. Death is simply shedding the garment of the physical body, and reincarnation means my soul acquiring and donning a new physical body.
The reason we repeat the cycle of life and death through reincarnation is to achieve spiritual maturity through diverse life experiences.
